Barb, I am so shocked about the terrible news concerning Gerry. My deepest sympathies to you, your daughters and their families. Gerry and I went through high school together and I recall being really proud of him for his prowess on the basketball court. If I'm right, he was a starting guard for the senior team and played very well. There was a youth centre built next to the synogogue during our teen years and I had the opportunity to play basketball and floor hockey there alongside Gerry. I don't know if you met his father or not. When we were in elementary school, we attended Hebrew school a couple weekdays each week. Gerry, Marsh and I were driven home by our parents on a rotating basis. When Gerry's father drove, I usually ended up with a headache because of the cigar smoke. Funny the things that one remembers. Even though I have had limited contact with you and Gerry, I am reminded of his quiet nature, great laugh, warm smile, and humble personality. God bless you and your family during this most awful time. Wishing you well. Jay

Dear Barbara, I am so shocked and sorry to hear about Gerry. He was always so kind and understanding when I talked to him about Canada Blooms. We always had interesting conversations and productive outcomes. I could sense that he relied on you to help him deal with the Garden Club members so successfully. You were a great team. Canada Blooms did well under his leadership and I will remember him often because of that. I am in Victoria, B.C. now and will not be able to come to your home on the weekend, which I certainly would have done, had I been in Toronto. I send my sincere condolences to you and your family. Dear Barbara and family. I am so very sad to learn about the unexpected passing of Gerry. I know him through my membership in the Garden Club of Toronto, and my involvement in Canada Blooms. He was a lovely man..always positive, smiling and willing to take time to solve a problem or have a cheerful chat. I will remember him with gratitude as he made sure our current project at the club, the spectacular June Callwood Park in downtown Toronto, received $50,000 from Canada Blooms. For me the 85 crabapple trees going into the park (which opens in June 2013) will be a fitting tribute to a fine man. In sympathy for your loss. Lynn Morgan

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of my good friend from high school, Gerry Ginsberg. Gerry and I met in Grade 9 at South Collegiate. We hit it off immediately. We soon discovered that we had something in particular in common...we were the same age, to the day. On many occasions, Gerry invited me over to his house after school to play pool and snooker in his basement, on Windsor Crescent. For a couple of years, most Saturday nights, I would walk over to Gerry's house, and then we would walk downtown to take in a movie. On one of these occasions, Gerry suggested we go over to Mario's on Clarence St. for a pizza. I had never had pizza before. You never know what effect you might have on someone else. Gerry introduced me to pizza, and it became one of my favourite foods, and eventually I owned 3 pizza restaurants for a time. Eventually, our interests changed, and we went our separate ways, but I have continually thought of Gerry over the years for a several reasons. I still live in south London, and my daughter and I do long distance running, and have a route that goes past Gerry's old house on Windsor Crescent. Most times, I tell my daughter the story of my friend who lived there. Also, when eating pizza, I very often tell the story of my friend who first got me hooked. Another thing that reminds me of Gerry often, is when I see today's athletes celebrate anything they do well in their sport. I remember what a humble guy Gerry was. Gerry was a great athlete, in football and basketball. He was on the school basketball team, and whenever he sank a basket, which was often, he would look down and frown, somewhat embarrassed at his skill. Like I said, a humble guy. Though I have not seen Gerry in over forty years, I can tell from his picture that his personality hadn't changed from the friendly, easy going guy I knew, and I will miss knowing he was out there in the world. My sincerest condolences to Gerry's wife, daughters and extended family. Roger Ferris

We were schocked and very sad to read Gerry's obit in the London Free Press today (Wed. May 8). We are at a loss for words. Our deepest sympathies are with you and all of your family. He was a wonderful person and we really enjoyed the many fun times we shared together when you lived in London. I am so sorry that we have lost touch over the years. I think the last time we saw Gerry was at Victoria Park when the RibFest was on- that must have been at least 10 years ago. Barb, I am sure you must be going on adrenalin now but when you do have some time I sincerely hope you will give us a call. I do not know where you are living nor do I have your phone # so this is the only way that I know to get in touch with you. Love to you and Rachelle and Julie and congratulations on having 2 grandaughers! I am sure they are beautiful. Love - Mary and Don
