Obituary of James Ponsford
October 26th 1920-Feburary 9th 2016
Passed away Tuesday, February 9th, 2016, at London’s Parkwood Veterans Hospital at the age of 95. Predeceased by his wife Margaret (Waring). Loving father of Susan Boylan (John-deceased) and Patti Wilson (Shawn). Dear brother of Jean Stephenson (Gerald). Loving grandfather of Amy, James, and Sidney. Fondly remembered by his in-laws Eileen (Bill – deceased), Fred, and Barbara (Wilhelm). Also by his many nieces and nephews.
Jim served Canada in WWII as a radar mechanic on Marble Island and did a tour in England near the end of the war. Jim and his wife moved to Chatham working for the Huron and Erie Savings and Loan Company. Then he went back to London with his new family of four. Working for Canada Trust was his lifelong career. He was last a Branch Manager in St. Thomas, where he retired to golf, curl, make woodcrafts, and spend time with his family. Jim survived many illnesses, fighting cancer successfully for years. Much of his longevity can be attributed to the excellent care given to him by the wonderful staff and nurses at Parkwood Western Counties Wing, where his humour will be sorely missed.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside memorial service at a later date in warmer weather. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory would be appreciated.
Evans Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements (519)451-9350.
