Obituary of Mike Lazarakos
Peacefully, with family by his side, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Michael “Mike” Lazarakos passed away in his 86th year. Loving husband of Debbie (McReynolds) and father of George (Erica) Lazarakos of Sarnia & Marina (Jason) Childs of London. Loving Pappou to Sam (Kat), Zoë (Zac) & Elena. Dear brother of Tony (Marina) & brother-in-law of Fotoula. Predeceased by sister Dimetra (John) and brothers Dimetre (Maria) & Basile “Bill”. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & cousins in Canada & Greece.
Mike's upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for family values and the importance of community. These principles guided him throughout his life, shaping him into the cherished figure so many came to admire. His passion for culinary delights was evident to all who knew him. As the owner of several restaurants in Guelph, Kitchener/Waterloo, and Bayfield, he cultivated an environment where patrons were not just customers, but extended family members.
Beyond his restaurants, Mike's commitment to service extended to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Guelph and the local Greek school. He selflessly volunteered his time and resources, ensuring that both institutions flourished and continued to serve future generations.
Mike was also famous for his backyard pig roasts. These legendary gatherings brought together friends, family, and neighbours for an unforgettable feast of succulent meats, lively music, and endless laughter. It was at these and other gatherings where Mike could see his family together, which were moments he truly cherished. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support were the cornerstones of his family's foundation, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts and souls.
Visitation will be held in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 131 Southdale Rd. W., London, on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 10-11am. Funeral service will be conducted in the church at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London, Ontario.
