Obituary of Jeanette Saldaris (née Theodorakakis)

April 24, 1934 – February 4, 2024

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our family’s strength and beacon, Jeanette Saldaris.

Jeanette leaves behind her beloved children Connie Atkinson, Demetra Saldaris and Nicholas Saldaris, sons-in-law Robert Atkinson and Russell Goodfellow, her cherished grandchildren Andrew Goodfellow, Devin Atkinson (Erin), and Nicola Atkinson and precious great-grandchild Oliver. Predeceased by her treasured granddaughter Katherine Goodfellow. Siblings Maria (late Jim) Milles, Tony (Irene) Demas, the late Helen Aggelopoulos and Theodore (Sheila) Theodorakakis, brothers-in-law the late Sam (Kassiani) Saldaris and Gus Aggelopoulos and sister-in-law Helen (Pete) Verveniotis, and many nieces, and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Dimitri and Kalliope Theodorakakis, and in-laws Nick and Kanella Saldaris.

Jeanette was born in Arahova, Greece, a place filled with memories of family and early childhood learning that she treasured throughout her life.

Immigrating to Canada in 1952, with no English and few resources, Jeanette met and fell in love with her life’s partner, also from Greece, George Saldaris. Together George and

Jeanette built a wonderful life, raising three adoring children. At home, in garden and kitchen, Jeanette nourished body and soul. Jeanette could make flora flourish, memorable meals, and lively conversation. No one left Jeanette’s home without sustenance or a story to share.

In her later years, with her own children grown, Jeanette was proud to be able to work as a teacher’s assistant at an English Language Learners’ Centre, caring for children whose parents learned English as she once had.

Jeanette’s enormous strength, capacity for hard work, and tremendous devotion to family, friends and the Greek community were evident to all who knew her. Her passing leaves a void.

Funeral Services will be held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Southdale Rd. W., London, Ontario on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Woodland Cemetery.
