Naomi and I met when we were both working for CHILD and FAMILY SERVICES in 1960, and shared an office. Over the ensuing years are paths often crossed mainly because of our husbands' law careers. My late husband Hewett always had great respect for Martin.
I particularly recall a party at your house on Cathcart Street. It was probably after a Middlesex Law Association event. Naomi had made all the many delicious deserts!
In addition to her intelligence, she always exuded graciousness and charm.
She was a gem.
With my sincere condolences,
Catherine Littlejohn

Dear David and the entire Stambler family. Please accept my deepest and sincerest condolences. Naomi was a gentle and adoring presence for our family and her kindness to each of us over so many years was beyond measure. May she rest in peace.
This photo was taken in May 2008, possibly at the Tulip Festival in Ottawa. May her smile continue to radiate beautifully in the 10 directions.

Dearest Naomi,
Your funeral was as amazing as you always were. David gave a beautiful eulogy embracing all aspects of your life. It was emotional, honest, and spirited. I will miss you forever in my life. Enjoying lunch at your shul with cousins and friends was so cozy and warm on this freezing day.
Love you always my dear and lovely cousin.
Gaye xoxo

I can remember as far back as delicious dinners on Cathcart St 50 years ago and finding out that I had some cool cousins close to my age in the city. I will always remember Naomi as one of the kindest and gentlest souls I have and will ever meet.

I have written on many Tribute Walls and Legacy pages (including one for my husband 4 1/2 months ago), but somehow, this time is more difficult for me. Perhaps it is because my cousin Naomi was the first relative that I remember knowing aside from my own parents in London. Our mothers were first cousins; our grandmothers were sisters, so I knew we would always stay connected. Naomi was 9 years older and as a teenager, when she took me to the Honey Dew restaurant for lunch, told me about her Social Work career, and I got to see her first apartment, it was just so inspirational. I wanted to be a college graduate, have a career, be smart, articulate, and pretty just like her. The 9 years between us melted quickly when I married the love of my life at 20 and had our first child at 21. Our 6 kids were very close in age and we all had a lot of fun during our summer visits to Michigan (where my parents had moved) and then on to Canada. My husband and I lived in Colorado and it has long been my home. As the kids became young adults who married and had families of their own, our phone conversations revolved around how great it was to be a grandparent. I was just thrilled when she got a granddaughter of her own because she was spoiling the life out of mine! Naomi's generosity is well known, but it is actually her generosity of spirit, her genuine kindness, and caring ways that are most impressive.
Sadly, due to distance and circumstances, our once frequent visits began to be linked with "celebrations"; the last one being the 90th birthday party for my mother when another cousin brought Naomi to Michigan for the festivities. We always had a wonderful time, but just not enough of them. My husband and I had planned a trip to Canada for last June (2023), but he became too sick to travel. In spite of her own health issues, Naomi expressed concern on the phone as to how I was "managing" w/o Bob. They has such a special understanding and friendship for the almost 57 years of our marriage. Just 2 weeks ago when we last spoke, I was able to tell her that my oldest daughter and I would definitely be visiting early in February. Naomi signed off on that final conversation by saying: "Until then sweet girl" and we expressed our love for one another. There is no doubt that this "lady" was a blessing in the lives of everyone who knew and loved her. How blessed was I to have had her in my life for 77 years? May you rest in the eternal peace that you so deserve, my dearest cousin. Fondest love now and forever, Laurie XO

Margie and I send our deepest condolences to the family.
We first met Naomi when we arrived in Canada from South Africa close to 50 years ago.
She was such a gentle, warm and soft spoken person and always had time for everyone.
Naomi was a wonderful cook, many of her recipes are in the Temple Israel cookbook published in 1995.

We met Naomi when we joined Temple Israel in the 80's. She quickly realized that she knew Sally's parents very well through one of her many social networks, making us feel welcome & connected. A favorite memory is her love of hidur mitvah, demonstrated by her donation of gorgeous roses for the High Holidays. The memory of the delight on the faces of children choosing roses to take home is a special one that brings a smile every time. Thank you Naomi for being a bright guiding light for all.

We so much enjoyed spending time with Naomi when she came to visit our shared family in Israel, Daniel, Batya, Omi, Tiferet, and Shefa. When I was in Toronto for a few days she made a point of coming to see me, and we spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon at a museum. Naomi was a true gentlewoman, with impeccable taste. She loved her family and was so proud of them, and was loved in return by them. She has a place in all our hearts. May her memory be a blessing.

I first met Naomi in 1989 upon being invited to dinner after teaching David feminist theory in a poetry class. Naomi and I became the dearest of friends, revelling in beautifully prepared meals, art gallery visits, especially the Frida Kahlo show in Ottawa, trips to Stratford and the Grand Theatre, dinner's out, outings to the cinema, and an exchange of visits for many, many years after I left London for Ottawa. It is hard to believe that the attached photo is taken just one year ago and that now Naomi has left this planetary realm. I will remember Naomi for her love of beauty and art from which I learned so much, her quick wit, her culinary talents, her love for her beloved cats and adult children and grandchildren. She also bestowed the love of "Nana Naomi" on my two children on her many trips to Ottawa and via the miraculous gift boxes full of carefully chosen books. My kids never had a chance to meet their grandparents, so Nana Naomi was it for them. I am beyond grateful for the years of friendship and the many memories that we laid down together.
I send my dearest wishes to David, Lori, Daniel, and Eve as well as all the grand children that your mother and grandmother's memory will truly be for you a blessing, that you will remember her as a woman of strength and valour, as do I.

Deep condolences to all of us losing beautiful and kind Naomi. We saw our dear cousin on the 6th of this month. We had a wonderful visit with her and Julie. I always admired Naomi throughout my life and often spent time with her for many days and nights in London. It always amazed me how she could make a pot of coffee late in the evening, drink it all, and fall asleep! But before that, we would stay up to 3am talking and laughing with tears running down our faces. We have many beautiful pieces in our home from Naomi who had such an artful eye. I will miss Naomi for the rest of my life as she was a favorite cousin of mine. I love you, Naomi, all the way from Detroit, Michigan and back. See you soon, darling...
