Obituary of Barbara Miller
On September 21, 2023, after a wonderful and full life, Barbara Miller passed away peacefully at University Hospital in her 101st year. She will be deeply missed by her children, Mary Jane (Kelly) and David (Elizabeth), her two grandchildren, Jamie (Ky Anh) and Kevin (Emilie), and numerous nephews and nieces both here and in England. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Donald Miller, in 2000. Also predeceased by her sisters, Edna Andrews and Rita Stevens.
Barbara was born in Southampton, England in 1923. Following graduation, she was employed in an administrative capacity with a national insurance firm. During the Blitz she worked with her father as an air raid warden.
On New Years Eve in 1944, she met Don who was then serving with the Canadian Army. It was love at first sight, with Don telling those he was with that night that he had found the girl that he was going to marry. They married in 1945 and, shortly after, Barbara followed Don to Canada as a war bride.
Barbara and Don enjoyed a long and happy life together and had many friends who they enjoyed spending time with. They loved to travel, visiting destinations throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. One of their favorite places was a cottage on the Rideau Lakes where they spent many memorable vacations together as a family, and, later, at their own cottage on Charleston Lake. Following Don’s retirement, they enjoyed their winter months in Florida.
Barbara was an excellent cook, artist, and gardener. She was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and a long-suffering fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. An extraordinary life, for an extraordinary woman; she will be missed.
Cremation has taken place. Barbara’s funeral will be held on September 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Logan Funeral Home located at 371 Dundas Street in London. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated. Online Condolences can be expressed at www.loganfh.ca.
At tree will be planted by the staff of the Logan Funeral Home, as a living memorial to Barbara Miller.
