Obituary of Maria Zervos
Maria Zervos, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 7th after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born February 14, 1940, in Makrysi, Greece to Leonidas and Christina Nikas. She immigrated to London, Canada in 1958 and soon met and married her lifelong soul mate, Alexander Zervos, of Perachora Greece.
She was a successful restaurateur, and widowed at 40, became the trusted Matriarch. Maria loved spending time with her grandchildren and instilled a love for Greek heritage with her incredible cooking, rich cultural stories, and dancing to Greek music. Dancing wasn't meant merely for formal events, but celebrated often, at any time of the day. She always put her family first and started each day with a personal mission - to work hard and make massive contributions to improve the lives of those she held dear. Her legacy is the impact she made on those around her, leading by example, and many will be blessed to carry on her solid core values, determination, kindness, and loving spirit.
Beloved mother of Nick Zervos, Maria Papadopoulos and Peter Zervos (Deidre). Loved Yia Yia (Grandmother) of Alexia, Soula, Aristea (Fraser), Alexander, Mariah and Zachary. Great Grand Mother to Hailey, Cohen and Rory. Godmother to Christina Singeris and Victoria Arvanitis. Best friends with Chrissoula and Aristides Papadopoulos.
Dear sister of Gus Nikas (Nikki) and Christina Haideman (Peter). Maria is preceded in death by beloved siblings Apostolia Pirgionas ( Peter), George Nikas ( Lola), Gianni Nikas (Panayiota), Peter Nikas, and Haralambos Nikas.
