Marion Lethbridge (Spry)

Obituary of Marion Lethbridge (Spry)

Marion (Spry) Lethbridge of Peterborough departed this earthly life on August 31, 2008. Wife of the late Reverend Graham Lethbridge, who predeceased her in 1995. Beloved mother of Jay and Cathy Lethbridge of Barrie and Don Lethbridge of Peterborough. Loved grandmother of Mike and Jessica Lethbridge. Survived by brothers Bill and Jean Spry and Ron Spry and sister-in-law Alice Creaser (Hugh) and their family, and fondly remembered by many special friends. Marion taught for 18 years as an elementary school teacher in Windsor, Kitchener and Oshawa. In 1948, Marion married (Reverend) Graham Lethbridge who later served Anglican parishes throughout Ontario in Thamesford, Woodstock, Windsor and Kitchener. Graham worked for 15 years with the Ministry of Community and Social Services in Oshawa, Peterborough and Toronto. Marion, Graham and sons thoroughly enjoyed their summer home at Sauble Beach, a much valued respite from the demands of everyday work life. Marion worked life-long serving her Lord, continuing after her beloved Graham passed away. Within the last few years, she was honoured to serve as the People’s Warden and as Chair for the 175th Anniversary Committee of St. John Anglican Church, Peterborough. An indomitable spirit, Marion could never be accused of withholding her opinion in any circumstance; Marion’s passion would not permit it. Although Marion was prepared to tackle more of life’s adventures, her delight in reveling in new experiences has left her family with a treasury of memories of a woman whose spirit outlived her body’s ability to achieve all her goals. Counted amongst the highlights of her trips to 27 countries, was a safari trek through Kenya after her retirement. Her last adventure required training for a bike tour. At the age of 70, one of the roads that she biked took her to the Great Wall of China. At Marion’s request, cremation has taken place. A graveside service and interment of cremated remains will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Woodland Cemetery, 493 Springbank Drive, followed by a luncheon from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at St. Pauls Anglican Cathedral. The family invites all those attending to wear red to celebrate Marion’s life and her love of fashion. Donations to Canadian National Institute for the Blind would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements have been trusted to Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street, London, Ontario.
