Obituary of Sotirios (Sam) Panopoulos

Born in Vourvoura, Greece, in 1934, Sotirios (Sam) Panopoulos passed away suddenly in his 83rd year at University Hospital on Thursday, June 8, 2017, with his loving family by his side. Beloved husband of Christina, with whom he just celebrated his 50th anniversary. Loving father to Margie (Peter Chelonis) and Bill (Michelle Searle). Adoring "Papou" to Christina, Demetria, Isabella and Alexandreia-Sotiria, the lights of his life. Devoted brother to Katerina (Niko) Papamichael in Greece, brother-in-law of Eleni in Greece, Mary in London and remembered by Georgia & Panayiotis Oikonomakos, Isabella & Kostas Tselepis and Kiki & the late Euripedes Tzortzakakis, all in Greece. Predeceased by his brothers Elias and Nikitas. Cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins and remembered by his many friends in Canada, the United States and Greece who are missing him terribly. In 1954, when he was 20 years old, Sam immigrated to Canada and operated several successful restaurants alongside his brothers Elias & Nikitas. An unforgettable personality, Sam was respected by many for providing strong and dependable advice, and for his exceedingly generous nature. Fiercely loyal and protective, his candid and frank sense of humour, his booming laugh and blunt honesty will be missed by his family, friends, former employees and customers. Friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street, on Sunday June 11th from 6-9pm. Prayers will be held in the Logan Chapel at 8pm. The funeral service will be conducted at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Southdale Road West, on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11:00am. Interment to take place at Woodland Cemetery after the service. Donations to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated by the family.
