Obituary of John Elliott Townshend
John Elliott died suddenly at Richmond Woods Retirement Residence on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in his 84th year. Beloved and loving husband of the late Ruth Miriam (Fry) for 60 years. Dear son of the late Right Reverend William and Kathleen Townshend. Loving father of John and Rosemary Townshend, Paul and Marta Townshend, Peter and Jane Townshend, and Jennifer and Robin Lyons. Loving grandfather of Katie and Brandon Lawrence, Matthew and Kayte Townshend, and Jordan Townshend; Larissa, Alexander and Michael Townshend; Anna, Christopher, Andrew and David Townshend; Jonathan, Gregory, and Timothy Lyons. Great-grandfather of Miles Townshend. Loving brother or brother-in-law to Betty Townshend, Betty and Robert Foster, Mary Friesen, Barbara and Gordon Ullerick, Peggy Utting, Robert and Pat Townshend, Nancy Lougheed and also many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Eleanor Monture, brothers William and James Townshend and brothers-in-law Harold Monture and Howard Friesen. John was dedicated to the care and nurture of the students and teachers of London in his role as a lifelong educator with the London Public Board of Education. Friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St. (between Waterloo and Colborne St.) on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A service of thanksgiving in celebration of John’s life will be held at St. John The Divine, Arva, on Monday, March 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences www.loganfh.ca A tree will be planted as a living memorial to John Townshend.
