Obituary of Ralph Ian Brooke
Dr. Ralph Ian Brooke, age 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at St. Joseph’s hospice in London, Ontario, after courageously battling a terminal illness. He is deeply mourned and sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Lorna, his eldest son Michael and his wife, Michal and her parents, Yehuda and Rachel Kahane, his younger son Andrew and his friend Smadar Meiri, his brother Martin and late brother Tony, and his grandchildren Maya, Jonathan, Ethan, Sarah, Rachel and Daniel. Born in Leeds, England to Michael and Netta Brooke, Ralph was an outstanding contributor to the medical and dental science fields, receiving numerous awards, honours and accolades, including the Barnabus Day Award, and the Honourable Alumnus of Distinction Award from Western University, where he worked for over 40 years as a distinguished professor and lecturer. His roles at the university included Chair of Oral Medicine, Dean of Dentistry, Vice Provost Health Sciences, and Chief of Dentistry at University Hospital. He published many papers and articles in his field, and contributed to numerous medical and dental textbooks and professional journals. He was also active in the London Jewish community serving as President of Or Shalom and the London Jewish Federation. Ralph was a true lover of life; his passions, besides his family and work, included music, wine-making and travelling the world, including several trips to Israel. Very special thanks to all the health care professionals at University Hospital and everyone at St. Joseph’s Hospice who made his final journey a peaceful one.
