Obituary of Francis William "Frank" Thompson
It is with great sadness that the family of Francis (Frank) William Thompson of Mapleton, Ontario, announce his passing following an illness on December 31, 2017, at the age of 78. Born in Manchester, United Kingdom in September 1939, Frank moved with his parents and brothers to Canada, and settled in London, Ontario in 1954. Frank will be forever remembered by his children Steven (Loril) of Cochrane, AB, Brian (Michele) of St. Thomas, ON, and Teresa (Rich) Bender of Mars, PA. Frank will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren, Kyle, Ashley, Jared, Timothy, Julia, Cassidi and Karlie, and two great grandchildren, Claire and Kate. He is also survived by two brothers, Tom and Peter, both of London, Ontario. He was predeceased by parents Reginald and Mary Thompson, and brothers Michael and Des.
Retired from the Ford Motor Company, Frank lived in Mapleton for 49 years, from 1968 until his death. He was an avid Indycar racing fan, and attended the Indianapolis 500 for 27 consecutive years before an accident made it difficult for him to travel. He was also a passionate snowbird, and loved to travel to Florida every year to escape the sometimes harsh Ontario winters.
