Obituary of Murray Eldon Copeland
After a long courageous battle with colon cancer, Murray Eldon Copeland, 67 of Surrey B.C. passed away at the Peace Arch Hospital Hospice, White Rock B.C. on March 15, 2010. Murray grew up in Woodham, Ontario where he attended elementary school. He graduated from St. Mary's District Collegiate, St.Marys, Ontario. He moved to London to attend London Teacher's College and then graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Murray was a classroom teacher from 1965-1968 at Parkview Public School in Middlesex County. In 1968-1970 he was a teacher librarian. In 1970 he moved to the Middlesex County office where he became a resource teacher. As he honed his skills he became in charge of Learning Materials and finally Audio Visual Consultant until he retired in 1998. He quickly sold his beautiful Delaware home, purchased a motor home and headed for Surrey, B.C. Each fall he would drive south and spend the winters in the southern United States, returning to Surrey which he called home. Colon cancer was diagnosed in July, 2007. He had chemotherapy for one winter. It appeared to have killed the cancer but reappeared with a vengeance in 2009. It had metastisized and spread all over the abdomen. Murray was the only son of the late Lawrence and Blanche Copeland. He is survived by his two older sisters, Ombra May and Donna Trevithick and two brothers -in-law, Murray May and John Trevithick all of London Ontario. Four nieces, Shari McNeill , Colleen Sutton, Susan Carpenter and Yuko Trevithick, as well as three nephews, Richard May, Scott Trevithick,and John Mc Neill survive him. Two grandnieces, Elise Trevithick and Cassandra Sutton as well as seven grandnephews, Jason and Reid McNeill, Thomas, Callum and Ewan May, Blake and Maclean Cochlan survive him. In lieu of flowers Murray would appreciate any donations be given to the Canadian Cancer Society. The body is resting at the Logan Funeral Home where visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. The body will be interred at a later date in Kirkton Union Cemetery, Kirkton, Ontario.
