Passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the age of 83. Fondly remembered and missed by his daughters Janice Hindley (Scott Henderson), Pam Roel and Marsha Lace; and his grandchildren Olivia Hindley, Bennett Hindley, Julia Roel and John Bandejas. Gord was born in Port Credit, Ontario, the son of Edward Michael Lace and Aileen Georgina (Turner). Predeceased by his older brother Ed Lace, Gord is survived by his brother Frank Lace (Nancy), Oshawa; and sisters Bette Wood (late Ron), Jean McLean (late Garland) and Madeleine Sator (Henry) all of Toronto. As a young boy, Gord was a caddy at the Lakeview Golf and Country Club where his passion for the game of golf was born and his natural talent and skill grew. In the early days, Gord broke George Knudson’s course record at Lakeview with a 66; he got his first of 11 holes in one in 1963; he won the Louis Epstein Memorial Trophy two years in a row at the Uplands Club; and in 1972 set a record of 65 on the old course at Glen Abbey. In 1987, Gord received a National Achievement Award from the Province of Ontario in recognition of distinguished performance in the field of amateur sports. In 1987, he was a member of the Canadian Seniors Championship golf team. Gord always said that his daughters were his lucky charms when they caddied for him in the two day Kawartha Lakes Invitational every summer for years. In 1988 and in 1989 he was the Ingersoll Golf and Country Club senior champion. In later years, despite declining health, Gord enjoyed teaching golf to players of all ages and abilities, and playing golf with his buddies, especially Kent and Dave, on their trips to Myrtle Beach. The family thanks Dr. Arntfield, Dr. Powers and nurses Jenny, Melanie and Rebecca for their excellent care and compassion.
