Obituary of Demetre (Jim) Politis
Peacefully, on Monday, October 20, 2014 in his 90th year, surrounded by his loving wife and children, Demetre (Jim) Politis took his last breath. He lived graciously and courageously until the very end.
He was born in Thouria, Kalamata, Greece on August 15, 1925. His dream was to come to North America (like his great-grandfather) to provide a better life for his family. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 and settled in London, Ontario. Demetre’s wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family were the pride and joy of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Annetta his 4 children Helen (Robert) Millard, Eva Adamou (Doug), George (Antonia) Politis, Dianne (Apostolos) Boundikas, his 10 grandchildren Jim (Kelly) Millard, Annmarie (Peter) Kokkoros, Kristin (Yannis) Melissis, Maria (Joe) Gamboso, Demetre (Emily) Adamou, Demetre (Christen) Boundikas, Christos (Despina) Boundikas, Annette, Maria and Demetre Politis and his 15 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his beloved brother Paul Politis and many much loved nieces and nephews.
There was nothing he loved more than an interesting conversation about politics with his good friends. He was known for his love of learning and was a self-taught individual. He made many contributions to the Greek community of London and in the early days, he guided and supported many young Greek immigrants who came to London, Ontario. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
