"Peter" and Helen were friends of ours from Mexico. As stated in his obituary he laughed loud and he laughed often. We were so sorry to hear of his passing and would like to send Helen and his family our sincere condolences. We will sorely miss him this year and will raise a glass at " happy hour" in his memory as I know he would like.

Hi Helene, What can I say, besides Pete was a remarkable man. When I arrived at the chemistry dept. in 1981 (so many years ago..yikes), Pete and I got on from the get-go. We had the same sense of humor, and always seemed to be on the 'same page'. There was never a party that went by, or a golf tournament, or any social gathering here in chemistry that Pete (or I) missed! I was sad when he retired, the place wasn't the same around here without him. We were lucky that he kept in touch and I enjoyed the visits and chats when he dropped in to see us. My office seemed to be the place where he could sit down and relax. I remember typing his exams (on a typewriter -- good grief), drawing his formulas by hand! and basically preparing his course work. Always patient, and always laughing. It was a pleasure to work with him, and made my employment here at UWO a pleasant and memorable part of my career. Pete's funeral and send off at the Hunt Club was a day to remember. I know for sure he was there laughing and drinking with us, enjoying the day as much as we were. He would be happy and proud that we did the same. You gave him a wonderful farewell Helene. I know you will miss him, you and he were a great team. The circle of life goes on doesn't it. Keep in touch Helene. Love, Sandy

Dear Helene, I was so very sorry to hear of your husband's sudden death. I think I only met Pete once and that was in Brisbane in 2000 when I was there for 6 weeks of my sabbatical and you and Pete also came to the uni during that time. I remember going out for dinner with you and having a lovely time. He seemed like such a kind and gernerous man and as was noted in his obituary, someone who loved life. I wish you much courage and strength during this very difficult time and hope you are sustained by the many memories you have of your life together. Anita

Dear Fraser and all: I send this note to you, Fraser, because you are the only one of Pete's children that I have met. And you will probably not remember, but once in a while, you would be in the Office of the Dean of Science when your dad was assistant dean. You were a complete menace - into papers on my desk, taking the phones off the hook! That's a long time ago...I was secretaty to the dean, and it was great to have your dad around for fun and help. He not only had a great sense of humour, he was patient, and he could be serious - he knew how to run a faculty. His passing was a wake-up call for me. He was one year older than I, and it reminds me that no matter how vibrant and joyful we have been during our lives, we all have a limit. Please give my sympathy to all your family and Helene. Sincerely, Barb Conkey

I am truly saddened to hear the news of Pete's passing. Pete was my colleague at Western for 25 years. When I first arrived at Western (1986) the Chemistry department was a truly special place. There was a collegiality and a sense of humor about the place which I found very welcoming. Pete was one of those faculty members who seemed to be laughing the most and the loudest. I think every would agree that Pete's jokes could be at times pretty raucous, but as that is my kind type of humor I always looked forward to hearing what he would say next. Even after Pete retired he was a fixture in the department. His energy level and humor were unflagging. In my opinion a Science department is known externally by the papers published by individuals. Internally, however, the focus of a department is the individuals who happen to publish papers. From my perspective and in this regard Pete was part of the DNA of Western's Chemistry department. We are a bit diminished by his passing. My sincerest condolences to Helene.

Peter, Mickey and I were so sorry to hear from my sister Marilyn about your dad's sudden and unexpected passing. Made me think about some of our adventures from the long past, particlularily "The Thames River Affair" when you borrowed your dads car and decided to try and drive it into the Thames river. Lucky he didn't skin you alive over that. Please know that our thoughts are with you Ted and Mickey
