Obituary of John Nicholas Giouroukos

Peacefully with his loving family by his side at LHSC-University Hospital on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the age of 105. John was born on February 5, 1908 in Garea, Tripolis, Greece and immigrated to Canada in 1930. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews Mary and Peter Sempecos, Nick (Rita) Giouroukos, George Giouroukos, Emily Anagnostis, Roni Bura, Mary Theofilopoulos, Jon (Georgina) Mihalopulos, Nicholas (Dina) Giouroukos, Nick Assiouras and John Assiouras. Forever in the hearts of many wonderful great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings Steve, George, Maria, Sevasti Mihalopulos, Evangelia Assiouras and Sotirios. John was a well-known London businessman and proud owner of the Athens Grill, the Greyhound Terminal Cafeteria and the Knotty Pine which he ran for many years with his brother Sotirios. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and doctors at University Hospital for all their care and support. Friends will be received at the LOGAN FUNERAL HOME, 371 Dundas Street, on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. Trisagion prayers will be held in the Logan Chapel on Monday at 8 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted in the HOLY TRINITY GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 133 Southdale Rd. W. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Woodland Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the HOLY TRINITY GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH in memory of Mr. Giouroukos.
