Obituary of Harry "Butch" Cavender
CAVENDER, Harry (Butch)
After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Butch passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on December 4th, at the age of 71. Cremation has taken place.
He was predeceased by his beloved soul mate and best friend of 55 years, Sue, in September 2013, and mother Verlie, in January, 2007. Survived by sisters Carol (Jim) Gardner and Lynda (Ron) Fairhurst, and nieces and nephews. Very proud Dad of Beth (Jack) Roberts, Kevin Cavender, Wendy (Paul) Feron, Chris (Nancy) Cavender, Tammy (Jim) McGrady and Cathy Cavender. Special Poppy/Papa to Jennifer (Brad) Skeggs, Jason Roberts, Briana and Braden Cavender, Alexandra and Meghan Feron, Hayden and Callia Cavender, Alicia and Jimmy McGrady. Great-Grandpa to Addison Skeggs.
Born and raised in Windsor, ON, Sue and Butch met and married at the age of 15 and had six children by the age of 26. In 1972, the family moved to London, and Butch started his 36-year career at Fanshawe College, where he was a Senior Project Coordinator/Team Leader in Facilities Management, Planning & Development. He was an integral part in the construction of most of the new buildings beyond D Block on campus. Music was an important part of his life – he taught himself to play guitar, and composed many songs. He was a member of a spiritual folk group called The Youngfolk, and sang and played guitar in several church choirs.
Butch believed that "We are on this Earth plane to experience the fullness of life; to give, more than to take, and basically to serve others; to hopefully leave it better than we found it". He lived his life based on his beliefs, developing his mind, body and soul throughout his lifetime.
