Janet - I pray that you and your family may know the deep peace of God at this time. I have great memories of Hanukkah parties, hosted by you and Gerald. In your own inimitable way, you crossed religious and cultural boundaries on those occasions, and shared your rich traditions with us. To my surprise and delight, you came to hear me when I preached at First St Andrew's United Church. The Corbet-Fridman friendship began in 1976 when you became our next door neighbours and continued for 40 years. Our lives were richer, and certainly more animated because of this relationship.

Despite having retired some years before my appointment at Western Law, Gerald was a daily presence at the Law Faculty. Not only did he attend every talk that I, a very junior faculty member, gave, but he also never failed to make helpful comments (usually drawing my attention to a case that I should have known about!). I will miss Gerald. May his memory be a blessing.

Dear Janet: I remember with pleasure having worked with Gerald on the Orchestra London Program and Artists Committee. He was a man of knowledge and culture, of which I fear London has unfortunately too few. I greatly appreciate the exemplary work and support you both contributed to the orchestra--that allowed it to flourish--and am saddened by your loss, as I'm sure are all who shared Gerald's acquaintance. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to the family. Unfortunately I am unable to attend the service but would liked to have done so to show my respect for such an inspiring academic and a man who always remembered me when we passed in the halls of Western's Law School over many years. He will be missed by many and certainly by me.

Gerald was at the law school when I arrived as a student many years ago. He and I were then colleagues for about 25 years. After his "retirement", I looked forward to seeing him in the halls or in his office. Throughout all this time (over 40 years) Gerald was an inspiration. I already miss him and will do so every time I'm in the school.

Dear Janet and children, I am so sorry to learn of Gerald's death. Please accept my sincere condolences. Although I rarely saw Gerald after I retired and moved away, I have wonderful memories of him. He was a true scholar, a learned man, and a great colleague. Albert

Dear Janet and Family: I was so sorry to read of Gerald's death in the paper today. Gerald was a treasured colleague at the Law Faculty for nearly thirty years. He was wise, interested in whatever topic on which I sought his advice, and approachable. His reputation as a teacher and legal scholar is unassailable. Please know that Norah and my prayers are with you at this time. Ian and Norah Hunter

I assisted Professor Fridman with editing of his book "Torts: A Guide for the Perplexed" for the past several years. He was always so delightful to work with, and never failed to ask about my many dogs. My deepest condolences in the loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Your loss is all of our loss. I met your father at our MBA graduation. My father, a lawyer, was there, and he remembers being introduced and recognizing your fathers name.

Dear Penelope, I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. You do not need me to tell you and your siblings what a giant of the legal world he was. I am truly saddened to learn that he is gone. I miss your brother every day. I often tell my kids stories about my old friend, Saul. I remember one occasion when Saul insisted that I come to London and to sleep overnight at your parents' old house on Victoria. I doubt your mom would remember it, but I do--very well. Your parents were both very gracious to me. I distinctly recall having breakfast with your dad and Saul on Saturday morning--your dad sitting at the kitchen table reading his paper. Your mom asked if I had slept well. She mentioned that the bed I had slept in had also been slept in by Lord Denning when he was their houseguest when he came to commemorate the sesquicentennial (or some such occasion) of the Middlesex County Law Association. Clearly, she expected me to be impressed that I had slept in the same bed as Lord Denning. She was not amused when I expressed my hope that, in the meantime, she had changed the bedding. But, your dad had a good laugh! The formulaic closing is for me to express my wish that you and your family be spared further pain. Of course, we never are spared that--it is an unavoidable and recurring part of the condition we call "life". I hope, at least, that you are spared further pain for a long, long time. My most sincere condolences to you and your family. Alan

My sincere condolences on the passing of Professor Fridman. He was a wonderful professor and the only one who made me feel like 5 years of Latin was worthwhile! Saul and I were moot partners and also band mates. Professor Fridman has left a legacy of scholarly works and our students still refer to his texts. Sincerely , Brenda

I am so saddened to hear of this news. Gerald has been a tremendous colleague of mine at the law school. He was always engaged and interested, ready to discuss events of the day or developments in the law. He was generous with his time and his ideas. Hearing him approach along the hallway readied me for his latest observations on theatre, politics or people. Despite being retired for many years he was regularly in the office almost every day. I will miss him very much. We collaborated on the third edition of his textbook on tort law. I am grateful to him for being willing to work with me on this project, one that was very important to him. I will miss helping him solve small issues with his computer, printer or cassette player. Janet, my thoughts are with you and your family. I wish that I could attend the service but I will be in Los Angeles at an international private law conference. I will honour Gerald with some remarks there.
