Dear Mrs. Potter & Family, My heart filled with sadness when the news of Mr. Potter's passing reached me just a couple of weeks ago. But it was feelings of gratitude and admiration that prevailed and I have been thinking a lot about the impact that he had on me, on all of us, as young learners and basketball players at Southwood. I now work in Antarctica, leading expeditions on small ships for people from around the world who are fascinated by the wildlife and landscapes of the Great White Continent. On January 9, I welcomed a new group of people on board and delivered a welcome briefing, sharing a few of the places we hoped to explore. I concluded this part by stating that we are all on an adventure together and that 'all will be revealed in the fullness of time'. You likely already know this, but this phrase I learned from Mr. Potter, who would regularly say it us (much to our frustration!) in his Grade 6 homeroom. I told my guests that this was a quote I had carried with me since his class and it gets more and more true with every year. Two days later, I learned that Mr. Potter passed away and I was honestly left awestruck. The impact that Mr. Potter had on me - by reading us the Hobbit, by teaching us to build bird houses, by modeling discipline and respect, by coaching us and teaching us about teamwork and commitment and heart - has truly been such a huge part of my development as a young person. And so, with a bit of sadness, but mostly with a great deal of gratitude and admiration - I say goodbye to Mr. Potter. Sending love to your family in this difficult time. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Potter. A a former Byron Southwood Spitfire, I had the privilege of learning the game of basketball from Mr. Potter from grades 4-8. I remember my basketball playing days fondly, learning to work as a team and even winning a few city championships thanks to an always smiling Mr. Potter. As a teacher myself now, I am even more grateful than before for Mr. Potter's dedication to coaching. I know how challenging it can be to teach a full day of school and then spend your "spare time" coaching after school and on weekends. Mr. Potter will always have a spot in my heart, and I'm sure in the heart of many of the other students he has coached during his career. With deepest sympathy, Beth (Dean) Crinklaw Southwood Gold Basketball Team Member 1991-1995

I am so sorry to hear about Larry passing and I am sorry we were not able to spend much time getting to know each other due to the terrible circumstances. I saw a mug I rather liked the other day. It said I am not a widow I am married to a man with wings
