I am so heartbroken to hear the news of Lisa's passing, it is devastating and I am so so sorry for all of those who knew and loved her, she was a bright light always. I knew Lisa at the Faculty of Education when I had first started out as Assistant Professor in 2009, I'd met her through Rachel Heydon, and we shared some great talks together as well as some lovely meals! My younger sister lived in Maryland too, in Takoma Park, and I had also lived in Maryland for a number of years before coming to Canada. I didn't know that Lisa was ill, and am so shocked and saddened by this news. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, and please accept my heartfelt condolences, Julie Byrd Clark

Upon hearing the news, I began to recall so many wonderful times spent with Lisa and other childhood friends. Slumber parties, middle and high school classes, school crushes and dances, working together at Bethesda Florist, rides in her car listening to classic tunes (she introduced me to Fleetwood Mac!), Harvard Summer School. So many good memories of a very special friend. Sending love and light to everyone in her family. If I can do anything to assist, please let me know. <3 <3 <3 <3

I taught thousands of students during my career as an elementary school teacher. Lisa was one of those special kids because she exhibited amazing qualities as a youngster. Bright, thoughtful, mature beyond her years, creative, and talented - she left an indelible impression on me. Years later, when my husband was a Hearing Officer for the school system along with Lisa's mom, I was able to re-connect and learn about her as an adult. All those characteristics continued to blossom over the years and even more were added. Lisa met her challenges with grace and style and strength and love and will be remembered by all of us who were lucky enough to cross her path. We send our heartfelt sympathy to Lisa's family.
