Henry Wong

Obituary of Henry Albert Wong

Born November 3rd,1919 in London, Ontario; passed peacefully on October 10th, 2019 surrounded by his loving family, just shy of his 100th birthday. Beloved husband to the late Myrtle Wong (nee O’Hoy), devoted father to Sandi Wong (Norman Wolfson), Rick Wong (Brenda Joy Lem) and Tina Hoffer (late Steven Hoffer), and grandchildren Tyler, Daavi, Jazzmin, Sam and Una. Hank was foremost a proud Veteran of WWII; the last member of the special covert force behind "Operation Oblivion" mission in the Pacific. An early leader and organizer in woman workers’ rights, and a long-term member of the Steelworkers Union, Hank was also a key supporter of the Canadian Chinese community, earning the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2012. Most of all, he was keenly dedicated to his family and having fun. A staunch Canadian, Hank loved to drive coast to coast, first as an International Auditor for the Union and later just for fun with a carload of kids, belting out road songs full volume like "Found a Peanut" and "There’s a hole in the Bucket." He left us with so many fond memories, photos and quotes; some of the best - "Life is great!", "Who has more Fun than us?" or "Get outta here!". But the most pertinent and pragmatic one - "When you gotta go, you gotta go". Visitation from 10:00-11:00am at Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas St, London on Wednesday October 16th. Service to follow at 11:00am. Interment in Woodland Cemetery. Donations to Veterans Care c/o Sunnybrook Foundation, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre would be appreciated.
