Remembering Darrell I met Darrell in Grade 11 and over that year we became friends. Darrell was the one who always seemed to be happy and usually smiling; I suffered from bouts of anger and depression. We were opposites in many ways but he balanced me and was a faithful friends for the rest of my life; my best friend by the end of high school and forever. There are not enough words or time to tell you of all the events together for the past 50 years. In high school we rode our motorcycles together, we partied together and for a few months we even dated together (I had Patty Dawkins and he had her best friend Judy Begin). After high school we went separate ways but not that far apart. I went to U. of Waterloo but Darrell was just a few miles away at U. of Guelph. He studied agriculture hoping to get into the veterinary program (he worked for a Vet during high school and always loved animals). I always thought it sad that he didn't make it into vet school, but he did continue working in agriculture and with animals. Anyone who knew Darrell remembers his fishing. He was always collecting lures and finding great places to fish. I don't remember any catching, but that never seemed to dissuade him from the effort. That was just like Darrell, no matter the outcome he was always happy and ready to keep on trying. I remember a party at the Watkins' house. Darrell was late and when he got there all the kids had, finally, been settled down to sleep in a separate room. Well, Darrell wanted to see the kids and there were dire warnings from the mothers not to wake them, only look in (he promised!). The next thing we heard was "Uncle Darrell" and squeals of delight. The mothers were not happy, but all they could do was shake their heads and say "Well, that's Darrell". There are so many stories I could tell and they all demonstrate the same things; a man full of life, a man full of love, a man who was faithful and generous to all of those around him. Rest in peace Darrell. I miss you. Paul
