Obituary of Eugenia Christodoulou
Eugenia Christodoulou, in her 79th year, peacefully passed away surrounded by family at Mount Hope Long Term Care (LTC) on Monday, November 14, 2022. Devoted and beloved wife of 59 years of John Christodoulou. Loving and cherished Mother of Chris (Brenda) and Bill all of London. Predeceased by her father Vasilios Gikopoulos and her mother Athanasia Gikopoulou (nee Gargalioni). Survived by her brothers Nikolaos Gikopoulos (Kalliope), Dimos Gikopoulos (Martha) of Greece and John Gikopoulos (Georgia) of the United States. Eugenia will be sadly missed by her many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Canada, the United States and Greece.
Eugenia Gikopoulou was born in Zevgolatio, Arkadia, Greece. At the tender age of 19, she made her way across the Atlantic Ocean to a new land, Canada. There, she met and married John. Together, they raised two sons (her pride and joy), making beautiful memories and facing life’s triumphs and challenges with determination and humility.
Eugenia was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Community of London. Her faith was resolute and unwavering. For many years, she was a member of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society volunteering in the local community. In 2000, she was a proud recipient of the Ontario Volunteer Service Award.
In keeping with Eugenia’s wishes, a private service has taken place at the London Greek Orthodox Church with Interment in Woodland Cemetery. May Her memory be eternal.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to all the doctors, nurses, personal support workers and support staff for the compassionate care provided to our mother at LHSC University Hospital, 7th floor Neurology and at Mount Hope LTC (Marian Villa, 5th floor).
Those wishing to donate in memory of Eugenia are invited to do so to a charity of their choosing. Alternatively, donations to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Community of London & Vicinity may be made at Donate - London Greek Community (londongreekcommunity.com).
