Obituary of Annetta Politis

On February 24, 2022 our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend gained her angel wings. Annetta, in her 94th year, passed with peace and grace and has now joined her late husband Demetre (Jim). Annetta was surrounded by love. She was a cherished mother who will live on in the hearts of her children: Helen (Bob), Eva (Doug), George (Antonia), and Dianne. She was an adored yiayia to her 10 grandchildren, James ( Kelly), Annmarie ( Peter), Maria (Joe), Demetre (Emily), Kristin (Yannis), Demetre (Christen), Christos (Despina), Anette (Ron), Maria, and Demetre. She was further blessed with 20 great grandchildren who fondly referred to her as 'yiayiaka'. And, she will be lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family, and longtime friends. She is survived by her brother Kirk ( Bessie) and sister Thekla. Annetta was born in Boyiati, Greece on November 26, 1928. She spent her childhood years impacted by the Great Depression and her youth navigating life during the Second World War. She was lucky to find true love during hardship. Annetta took her husband Demetre's hand and put her faith in his decision to immigrate to Canada. In 1954, she left her home in sunny Drapetsona, Greece and everything and everyone she knew to join her husband in London, Ontario. She set sail on the Nea Hellas with two young daughters and a few suitcases to begin a new journey in a country she came to love. Annetta was a hard working woman who dedicated her life to making a home, raising her children, and providing them with opportunities so they could live a better life. She worked as a nurse's aid for 27 years at St. Mary's Hospital, and she enjoyed her retired life spending time with family and friends. Her life experiences engrained in her the values that she lived by. She never wanted more than what she had. And, she loved and appreciated all that she had. She was grateful in every moment. Annetta was happiest when she was with family. With her children close by, she was always present in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and, she proudly watched her children's children grow families of their own. They were the jewels in her crown. She will be dearly missed, but she will always be our sunshine... our only sunshine.
