Obituary of Dr. Ralph C. Williams
Peacefully at L.H.S.C. Victoria Hospital, Dr. Ralph Carl Williams in his 83rd year, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2007 after a long fight with heart disease and a brief battle with cancer. Predeceased by parents Freda (Smith) and Mathew Williams (Villani). Loving father of Gerry (Stratford), John (Nova Scotia), Charlene Findlay (St. Thomas), Robert, Doreen Smith (Dresden), Laurie Middleton (London), Barbara (London), Jennifer (Guelph), and Michael (London). Dear family friend of Michele Lemay. Also survived by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, his sister Celestine Marie Kraft (Stan) and brothers Vincent (Betty) and Elmer (Margaret). Predeceased by brother-in-law Nelson Bailey and son-in-law Jim Middleton. Ralph served with the Canadian navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945 as a Chief Radar Operator on corvettes and destroyers. After his discharge he worked for nine years with the Department of Veterans Affairs. In 1954 he returned to school, continuing to the University of Western Ontario to pursue his dream to be a doctor. Ralph graduated in the Class of ’61 and opened his practice on Hamilton Road in London in family medicine. In the early ‘70’s he served as president of the London Chapter of the Canadian College of Family Practice. Ralph practiced medicine for more than 40 years before declining health forced early retirement. He enjoyed his retirement years, buying a cottage at Port Franks and renovating it as a year round residence. He continued his golfing past-time and took up bridge. He was a member of the Canadian Legion in Grand Bend for many years enjoying legion activities. Friends will be received at the Evans Funeral Home, 648 Hamilton Rd. (1 block east of Egerton), on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted in the Evans Chapel on Monday, January 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Murdo Pollock officiating. Cremation to follow. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be expressed at www.evansfh.ca .
