Obituary of Kenneth William Lemon
Kenneth William Lemon died peacefully at his home at the age of 89 on September 25, 2006. Ken was an exceptional and extraordinary individual deeply loved by his family, highly respected by his peers and clients and recognized as an outstanding leader in his community and Church. Ken was predeceased by his loving wife Honor in 2002. Ken is survived and will be greatly missed by sister Jean MacLennan, his children Rick (Heather), Peter (Mary Ellen), Ann, grandchildren Brent (Jennifer), Meredith, Kristina, Kimberly Ann, Kristopher, Devon, Kaelenn, and great grandson Finlay. Ken joined Clarkson Gordon and Co (now Ernst & Young) in 1939 and opened the London office in 1948 with five other people and six clients. He was the leader in the office until he retired from the firm in 1983 with partners and staff of 220 people and hundreds of clients. Ken was recognized throughout his professional life as an outstanding leader to his people and a brilliant advisor to his clients, many of whom he continued to act for after his retirement. He was Executive Partner of Clarkson Gordon and led his profession as Chair of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He was recognized by his peers as a Fellow Chartered Accountant in 1956 and received the Award of Outstanding Merit in 1985. In recognition of his profound influence, leadership and contributions, the alumni of Clarkson Gordon/Ernst & Young established the KW Lemon Endowment Fund in 1983 at the Ivey Business School at UWO. Ken’s leadership roles in his community included President of the YMCA-YWCA of London, Chair of St. Joseph’s Health Centre of London, Chair of St. Mary’s Hospital, Chair of Management Advisory Board of London Psychiatric Hospital, Chair of Executive Board of Huron College and The Huron College Foundation, Chair of Advisory Vocational Committee of London Board of Education, President of United Way of Greater London, President of the Grand Theatre, President of London Hunt & Country Club, President of London Football Club (London Lords), and Treasurer of Ontario … Jamaica Partnership Foundation. Ken was also committed to his church including acting as a delegate to the Synod of Diocese of Huron for 30 years, member of the executive Committee for 25 years and Treasurer of St. James (Westminster) Church for 37 years. He also provided leadership to many community fund-raising campaigns. Ken received several honours including an Honorary LL.D from UWO, Fellowship of Honour from the Canadian YMCA and the Order of Huron from the Bishop of Huron. Ken was a keen sports enthusiast, an avid fisherman and cherished his time at Caughnawana Fishing Club with his family and friends. The family will receive friends at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday September 26, and 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27. The funeral service will be held at two o’clock on Thursday September 28th at St. James (Westminster) Church, 115 Askin Street. Interment Woodland Cemetery.
