Obituary of David Sheinbaum

It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we mark September 30th with the passing of David, most beloved husband of Naomi for more than 62 years, devoted and loving father of Roy and Lisa, Debbie and Larry, Lana and Frank, proud loving Grampa of Rebecca, Alexandra, Zachary and Julia, Josh, Sam, Jake, Mira, Sydni, and Oscar. Loving Brother to Freda Hann and Uncle Dave to Jonathan (Kathy) and Danny (Christine) Hann. David was born in Birzai, Lithuania on September 27, 1923. His 97 year journey brought him to London, Ontario via South Africa and a rewarding stay in Israel. His journey has been a good one, an incredible one, and one full of love, joy and accomplishment, embodied in a strong sense of integrity. David grew up in Johannesburg, where he graduated with a Degree of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand. His career as an Engineer took him to positions in England, Israel and finally Canada. His love of reading and thirst for knowledge led him to take more than 30 varied courses at UWO after he retired - during which time he earned an Arts Degree in Psychology and Sociology, and later a Diploma in Ethics. He is known to have often exasperated his professors with his probing questions. He enjoyed golf, despite a frustrating handicap, and he only stopped playing when he could no longer walk - he stubbornly refused to use a cart! He also relished a good game of bridge, which like everything he did, he preferred to play by his own rules. And as those who sat with him at the dinner table know, he was always ready to spark a provocative debate. David had 3 T-shirts which say a good deal about him: "I Am Not Opinionated, I Am Just Always Right"; "The Truly Educated Never Graduate"; and, "The World's Greatest Grandpa". But, his overriding passion was always his family. He was devoted to Naomi - his loving wife - she was his face in the community, and in the background he proudly supported her in everything she did. They enjoyed traveling extensively through Europe, to Israel, and to South Africa. Together they raised their family, of whom they are so proud. With their children, on holiday, they often enjoyed skiing in many resorts in Canada and the US. Next to Naomi, his love and pride in his wonderful children and their spouses, and his incredibly loving grandchildren - whom he loved unconditionally - was paramount. They are his pride and joy - his LEGACY, and he always cherished the love and devotion they all gave in return. He will live in their hearts forever.
