Obituary of John Jarvis Hodson

After a short illness, at London Health Science Centre, Victoria Hospital, on Wednesday, November 01, 2006, John Jarvis Hodson in his 85th year. John served in the British Army from 1939-1945 as a Gunner with the Royal Artillery in North Africa and Italy. John was an 8th army Veteran, Mentioned in Despatch for Distinguished Service; he emigrated to Canada in 1948. “John was a skilled wood craftsman and masterful storyteller with a specialty in ‘shaggy dog’ stories. He was admired by all who had the privilege of knowing his generous and gentle spirit.” John was predeceased by his beloved wife Bobbe (1998). Cherished father of Chris (Bill) Dampier, David (Sandra) Hodson, Shelagh (Keith) Bantock, Rob (Susan) Hodson, and Kathryn (Thomas) Blennerhassett. Devoted grandfather of Jeff (Katrina), James (Tess), Kathy (Carlton), Leslie (Jamie), John (Lucy), Scott (Cara), Paul (Lisa), Amy (Chris), Shelby, Ruby, Sam, Harry, Grace, Jack, Sam, and Lily and great-grandfather of Emma, Claire and Dylan. Survived by brother-in-law Kenneth “Jack” Smith & his children Fred & Philip, and Kendal & Muir Pepper & their children Adrienne & Quinten. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his precious sister Pamela Smith (1999). John was a Life Long Member of the Crumlin Sportsmen’s Association & the Carpenter’s Union. Friends will be received at All Saints Anglican Church, 249 Hamilton Rd. (2 blocks east of Adelaide), on Monday, November 6, 2006, from 10-11am with the Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev’d Peter Leonard officiating. Interment of ashes later in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Thamesford. In lieu of flowers, donations to the London Health Sciences Foundation … Emergency Care Program, would be appreciated by the family.
